Links

There are many excellent websites about the Lake District: the links below relate to or feature our local area. I hope you find them helpful!

Local information

Melbreak Communities is our local community website.

Lorton Village Shop, A Shed with a View has its own website now.

The Loweswater Show takes place in early September.

Roger Hiley is a neighbour who keeps a photographic record of walks on his website, Loweswatercam, along with some general information. If you look up some of the Low Fell walks in the Fell index, you will get a feel of the immediate locality and also see Foulsyke!

Our nearest towns are Cockermouth and Keswick.

Places to eat

Cumbria is becoming well known for its excellent food and there are many very good restaurants, cafes and pubs within a few miles. The following are some of the ones I enjoy visiting and I know many guests do as well.

The Kirkstile Inn, our local award winning pub, is only 10 minutes walk away. It does excellent food and local beers – booking advised. The Wheatsheaf Inn, Lorton (four miles) is another popular eating place with guests. And for a special occasion Lyzzick Hall at Bassenthwaite  and Overwater Hall at Ireby are excellent.
