Crummockwater Cottages at Foulsyke
Crummockwater Cottages at Foulsyke are magnificently located, enjoying what we, and many others, consider to be one of the best views in England!
From the grounds there is a breath-taking view down the length of Crummock Water towards Haystacks and Great Gable, with Grasmoor and Rannerdale on the left and Melbreak and the High Stile range to the right.
Foulsyke is situated in the three valleys of Buttermere, Loweswater and Lorton, which is one of the most beautiful but quieter areas of the Lake District. Foulsyke was originally an old manor house dating back to the 16th century and the cottages themselves are thoughtfully converted from the former barn and stables to provide spacious, warm and comfortable holiday accommodation. They are accessed through the arched carriage entrance, dated 1797, leading to the light and peaceful courtyard.
The cottages are an excellent base for walking the North Western and Western fells and many walks at all levels can start from the door. The area is popular with cyclists and bird watchers and there is wild swimming, boating and fishing locally. We are very lucky to have a healthy local population of red squirrels who regularly come to our feeders and bury their food in the lawns.
