Buttermere Cottage

Buttermere Cottage was originally a former hay loft (complete with dated inscriptions of 1654 and 1827) which has been carefully converted to provide unique and private accommodation on one level. A large open plan, but cosy, room incorporates a living area looking out over the garden towards the fells, a dining area and fully equipped kitchen overlooking the courtyard. The bedroom and bathroom lead off a small hallway: the bedroom is in a pretty country style with a king size brass bedstead and antique pine furniture and the spacious bathroom includes a corner bath for two and separate shower cubicle.

The conservatory provides the perfect place to sit and have a quiet drink whilst watching the birds and red squirrels in the garden and the west facing patio area is ideal for relaxing outdoors.

We have loved our week in Buttermere. Fantastic to see red squirrels at the feeder. Have been spoiled with such a great selection of local walks. Our favourites have been the Loweswater coffin trail walk and a walk along the High Spy Ridge. Can recommend Joan’s delicious banana cake – it has helped legs get up steep slopes!

Wonderful week, new high level walks, orchid hunting and birdwatching – all spectacular!! Thanks to Joan and team for the usual superb accommodation and goodies.

Buttermere Cottage is a perfect retreat, beautiful walking straight from the door. Five star accommodation and equipment, lovely garden, birds and red squirrels and all the extras too. Many thanks Joan, we hope to be back asap.
